Bio/ artist statement:
Sara Bruce was born in Louisville, Kentucky and received her BFA from the University of Texas at Tyler.
Her work explores the dynamic relationship between the social construct of the self and the unacknowledged aspects of the darker side of the personality; also known as the persona and the shadow in psychoanalytic terms. Themes of protection, coping and the absurd are threads that often run through her pieces. Through her previous work in painting, Sara is interested in conveying narrative and metaphor through sculptural form, as well as the nature of color within these works. She continues to use various media and is currently obsessed with casting soft stuffed forms in metal.
Sara resides in Alfred, NY and is pursuing her MFA at the Alfred University School of Art and Design.
